Chaya Schochet, the owner of Brooklyn Wigs in Crown Heights, has been a seasoned expert in sheitel services for over a decade to individuals who sought specialized care for their wigs. She has just launched an exciting new Chessed initiative to help those struggling to afford proper sheitel care.

“When I was just 8 years old, I was already helping my mother who owned a sheitel salon in Toronto,” Schochet told COLlive. “With the help of generous matchers, I can now offer a subsidized package for sheitel care for the Crown Heights community that has become my family and home over the last ten years.”

She also highlights the soaring prices of wigs in recent years, making it unaffordable for most women in the community to care for their wigs properly.

Brooklyn Wigs is on a mission to provide top-tier sheitel services at subsidized pricing, ensuring that every woman can afford the care her wig deserves. They offer specialized care, including deep hydration, detangling without causing hair damage, and treatments to enhance hair movement and shine – all at no additional cost. Their commitment to using only luxury hair products mirrors their aspiration to create a 5-star spa-like Mikvah experience for women to embrace the mitzvah of tznius and hair covering.

Schochet explains why she felt there was a need for this initiative. “Today there are organizations helping to subsidize the cost of going to the Mikvah, groceries for those in need, and more. Making sure women who can’t afford expensive wig care are able to feel good in their devotion to this Mitzvah should also have this option,” she says.

Schochet’s motivation for this endeavor stems from the Rebbe’s blessing and vision for making sheitels accessible to all women. “Before sheitels became accessible for all women, the Rebbe gave money to women to purchase sheitels. We’re now back to a point where even sheitel care is unaffordable and inaccessible for some women. This cannot be allowed to continue. So we’re making sure that carrying on the Rebbe’s wishes, every woman can afford her sheitel care,” explains Schochet.

Brooklyn Wigs offers first-class, premium quality sheitel care for $35, half the standard cost in Crown Heights, which has risen significantly to an astonishing $60-70 per wash and set. Moreover, they stand by the quality of their work, assuring customers with a satisfaction guarantee – they will redo the sheitel for free if the client is unsatisfied (conditions apply).

Looking to the future, Brooklyn Wigs has exciting plans to expand its offerings. They aim to provide subsidized premium sheitels, allowing every woman to own several beautiful wigs.

Additionally, they plan to extend their services to offer full lifetime care of wigs, including repairs and coloring. The salon will also accommodate busy wives and mothers with pick-up and delivery services throughout Crown Heights.

Brooklyn Wigs welcomes anyone to benefit from their subsidized deal, not just the Crown Heights community. They extend their services to people throughout New York, shluchos, and any Jewish woman visiting Brooklyn.

While their primary focus remains on sheitels, Brooklyn Wigs is willing to make exceptions and offer hair care services for special occasions such as bas mitzvahs, weddings, mikvah nights, and shidduch dates.

“Our goal is not to put other sheitel machers out of business – we’re just offering lower than standard prices because it’s become unaffordable for some women to care for their sheitels,” assures Schochet emphasizing their goal to create a positive impact in the community.

With a mission inspired by the Rebbe’s bracha and a vision to make sheitels accessible and affordable to all, Brooklyn Wigs has become a beacon of hope for countless women, ensuring they can embrace the mitzvah of hair covering with ease and grace.
