Overall, I’m not mad I attended NW. There are plenty of opportunities & groups to join to gain a strong sense of community and build great relationships that automatically make your experience better. I had stellar experiences with 99% of my instructors, most of whom were very engaging, supportive, and eager to help you succeed. I wasn’t on the party scene but I rarely heard any complaints that were unusual for the average college experience.
Now that the positives are out of the way, my biggest issues were parking, hall directors, and the integrity of certain degree programs. My hall director freshman year ignored the fact my suite-mate INTENTIONALLY exposed me to her period blood and threatened my safety multiple times and didn’t offer adequate remedy. I entered a degree program that was recommended for my desired career path, but didn’t offer any courses to provide proper education in that field. And my program building didn’t have proper student parking nearby... Do your research

Dorm is outdated and very old. Food isn't very good and meal plan is mandatory. Love the campus, people and area.

My time at this university has left me with reservations about recommending the program to others, due to an atmosphere that closely resembles a high school environment rather than a collegiate one. One of the most prominent issues I encountered was competitiveness, an elitist attitude, and favoritism within the music program. It was disheartening to find if you did not fit within a clique, it became challenging to carve out your place in the community. Furthermore, the level of research taught appears to lag behind more well-funded institutions. Another concern was the lack of collaboration between the theatre & music departments. Individuals who enjoy both theatre & choir often face cannot find a balance, and unfortunately, this issue has led many to transfer elsewhere. When attempting to address this problem with the university's staff, I found them largely uninterested in finding common ground or implementing solutions to foster collaboration between the two departments.

The school provides a great experience, with a beautiful campus and a vibrant community. I've made good friends here, academic programs are good. Professors are genuinely kind and supportive. Student life is active and engaging, with numerous activities happening on campus. The only downside I've encountered is the limited healthy food options in the cafeteria. While many people find the food satisfactory, it's been a challenge for me to find suitable choices that align with my dietary preferences. There are multiple fast food options available, including popular chains like Chick-fil-A, Qdoba. Additionally, Starbucks on campus is excellent. The housing is good, although I do find them a bit pricey. Coming from a big city, adjusting to the slower pace of a small town has been a transition for me. There aren't as many attractions to explore here, but the community makes up for it. The people in this small town are incredibly warm, friendly, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

I think that the housing needs to be a little bit better and the campus dining hall is not good food. They have the same things everyday and sometimes the food is not cooked.

Northwest is a great college town! There are stores and restaurants nearby, but nothing crazy. The sports are great and there are always activities to do and clubs to get involved in. Others may disagree, but I think the dining hall is pretty good!

I liked meeting new people are friends at northwest the energy between me and my friends are great. But this really inst the college you would want to go go to if your not an athlete. For a regular student like me I want to enjoy my time so I wont have to be in the room playing my game if I'm done with class. I know that there are colleges out there that provide a certain lifestyle that I am thinking. No offense to northwest though because their academics is top notch but the town isn't the best.

I guess you get what you pay for. I chose this school because it was affordable, but I was hoping to see more on an investment back into the students. The professors did their best, but they all seemed to have overwhelming workloads, some teaching over double a full time load. The food was atrocious, if you can avoid getting a meal plan definitely do that. The classes aren’t too hard, just pay attention and you’ll be fine. I did make some wonderful friends here, there’s a lot of different types of people here, you just have to work hard to find your group sometimes. There’s not much to do around town, parties can get old after a while and then you’re kinda out of luck. I probably wouldn’t recommend going here but it is doable. Good luck to any prospective students.

Northwest is a very open college, they have many student organizations so students can be involved. They have many services that can help students in almost anyway, like finding the right major, success in classes, financial help and even has a wellness center for the students physical and mental well-being.

I have had such an amazing time going to Northwest! It truly feels like the faculty and staff members care about the well being of the students! There are plenty of different organizations and clubs that students can be involved in. Northwest's goal is to make everyone feel welcome and included. I am extremely lucky to be a student at this university!

I love the campus and how beautiful it is, I also love the people I've met. Not only have I made friends with people living around me but I discovered a support group within my major that is always willing to help me out. My professors are amazing and have never not helped me when asked. One change I would make would be the food options, sometimes they are great but there's been a few questionable days. Regardless of the food options I love my choice of school and never question it.

I plan to be transferring to Northwest Missouri State University for the Fall 2024 semester, and I have visited the campus on several tours as well as visiting the campus on my own time. I have met members of the staff and the students at Northwest, who are very considerate with both their own student as well as potential new students. On my first tour that i took last fall, I asked for the tour guide if I could have have a copy of the presentation he used for the tour, and he took time out of his day to personally send me the the presentation; in that same tour, I met one of the head professors for the Psychology department in Northwest, who asked me about what I planned to accomplish with my time at Northwest if I do transfer, but also suggested what classes I should take before coming to Northwest so as to all for my career at Northwest to go even further.

At my time at Northwest Missouri State University, I have found that the food isn't the greatest and I rarely eat at the union. Most people are super nice and friendly and make it a great experience.

I love the faculty and housing. They have extremely amazing people to help you with whatever you need, the campus is so pretty as well. One thing I wish was if they had way more easier ways for students to earn scholarships

It is a well known and diverse community here on campus. I like it because it isnt to small or too big. It is perfect because its a medium size campus college and town. You cant get lost but you can run into friends anywhere. It is friendly and welcoming with lots of variety.

I have enjoyed my time at this school. Many of the class sizes are small enough that I know the names of the professors and they know mine, which can be hard to find in larger colleges. In addition, I was drawn to this college because of the price, and for the price, it offers many amenities, such as free textbook services and a free rented computer.

No clear path to graduation. No one really seems to know or understand what classes are required for graduation. Been a headache to deal with. Majority students of students in my program have no real experience or knowledge of the required software for jobs

I am a freshman, studying a Bachelor's Degree for Therapeutic Recreation. I have loved NWMSU since the first day. As an international student from South Africa NWMSU has given me a warm welcome and I felt at home almost immediately. The staff are friendly and helpful, the grounds are breathtaking, and the sense of community within the school is strong. I am very proud to be a Bearcat!
The professors are very helpful and know their course work. My professors are well equipped to help me understand course material and genuinely want their students to do their best. I have easily made friends to share my university experience with and I cannot wait to see what lies in my future as a proud Bearcat!

Northwest Missouri State University is the best college I've experienced. Before I was a freshman in college, I visited many colleges around the state of Missouri, and no college was like Northwest. The town of Maryville bleeds green & white. The community always shows up for all the sports games, homecoming, and the parades. Northwest is an amazing school!
