What would I use the gingerbread spice in? Cookies? Hot Chocolate? I am curious. I have tried to make gingerbread cookies from scratch, but the recipes always have weird ingredients.

I am about to post a gingerbread hot cocoa mix recipe. I also use it in my oatmeal and cereal. I mix it in with my coffee grounds to add flavor. It would make a great milkshake with vanilla ice cream. Pancakes, muffins, frosting, yogurt parfaits … just to name a few ideas 😀

I love gingerbread! This sounds wonderful. How much would you use of this mix in the hot cocoa recipe? 2-1/2 Tblsp?

Hi Pamela! Yes, 2-3 Tablespoons sounds about right for a large batch of cocoa mix. Depending on how much gingerbread flavor you prefer 🙂

Some other common spices used in gingerbread recipes are cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, and allspice. Cinnamon is available in ground form and in a stick. For baking, you should use ground cinnamon. Nutmeg adds a nutty, sweet spiciness to gingerbread.
What's The Difference Between Pumpkin Pie Spice And Gingerbread Spice? Both actually include most, if not all, of these same ingredients, though in different amounts. Pumpkin pie spice is heavy on cinnamon, while gingerbread spice has a balance of cinnamon, allspice, and ginger.
Gingerbread refers to a broad category of baked goods, typically flavored with ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon and sweetened with honey, sugar, or molasses.
The general term of gingerbread is used to describe the broad category of baked goods which are flavoured with the spice blend of ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, anise and molasses/honey.
Needing to be foiled, gingerbread loves whipped cream. But it also takes to tart winter fruits like a shortcake to strawberries. Poached or broiled pineapple sings alongside gingerbread, as do a few spoonfuls of pomelo curd, garnished with candied pomelo peel.
A common misconception is that allspice is a blend of different spices. The truth, however, is much more magical. Allspice does contain all the flavors of cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon combined - in one single berry. Which is, legend has it, how this unique spice got its name.
In Medieval England, the term gingerbread simply meant “preserved ginger” and wasn't applied to the desserts we are familiar with until the 15th century. The term is now broadly used to describe any type of sweet treat that combines ginger with honey, treacle or molasses.
To get 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, use ¾ teaspoon cinnamon and ¼ teaspoon ginger, allspice, cloves or nutmeg, whatever you have! If you have two of the above spices, use ½ teaspoon cinnamon and ¼ teaspoon of whichever two spices you do have.
As do the addition of nutmeg or allspice and cloves, all very distinct by themselves. All four sweet spices of ginger, cinnamon, allspice and cloves, in descending order of the usual measured portion, come together into an spice amalgam that makes gingerbread smell like gingerbread.
Gingerbread is a classic treat that is especially popular during the holiday season. It can be presented in a variety of forms from cookies to houses to little men. No matter its appearance, the taste is always pleasantly sweet with a mild, peppery kick.
